Building a better future

30 Jan 2009
Topics: Construction

On 10 October 2008, BSI held its Construction Industry Forum, officially launching the "Construction and Built Environment Sector Policy and Strategy Committee". Attendees to the event included government departments, industry contacts and construction committee chairmen and members, and it was opened by Mike Low, director of BSI British Standards and introduced by Sir David John KCMG, chairman of BSI Group.

Topics under discussion included "Rethinking standards in construction - the start of the process" which was led by Peter Cunningham of Constructing Excellence, and included an industry perspective from acting committee chairman, Peter Caplehorn.

A panel chaired by Shirley Bailey-Wood, operations director of BSI British Standards, discussed the need for co-ordination and transparency in the development of standards, and the impact of EU Directives and mandates versus voluntary standards.
