ISO 14001 Award: the shortlist

Environmental performance is proving to be as important for a company's record and reputation as the bottom line. The BSI British Standards ISO 14001 Awards 2008, supported by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), will celebrate the achievements of organizations following their implementation of ISO 14001 - the international Environmental Management Systems (EMS) standard.
Categories for the awards include: SME, large company and public sector organization. Winners won't be announced until June, but the shortlist is currently available online.

Global BCM accreditation for BSI
BSI Management Systems has become one of the first organizations to be independently accredited to deliver global certification against BS 25999, the business continuity management standard.
Driving change in the bodyshop industry
High Wycombe-based Motofix has become the 100th bodyshop to earn certification to the Thatcham BSI Kitemark, having demonstrated that it conforms to Kitemark standards. These include skills, repair methods, equipment and materials. The bodyshop was assessed by BSI inspectors and met stringent benchmarks in order to achieve Kitemark status.
BSI British Standards and the independent authority Public Concern at Work have launched PAS 1998:2008, new guidance for organizations on whistleblowing arrangements. The launch marked the tenth anniversary of the Public Interest Disclosure Act (2 July 2008), itself recognized as an international benchmark on the subject.
Fast glass: Kitemark® for Norvik
Barnsley based Norvik PVCu Window Systems Ltd has achieved Kitemark certification to BS EN 1279 for its new range of double-glazed sealed units in record time, following assessment from BSI Product Services.
Kitemark® for furniture removers
Ever had to move office? Ever struggled with your moving company and wished there was a better way to find a reliable supplier? There is an answer: BSI Product Services, working with the British Association of Removers (BAR), has published PAS 126:2008, covering commercial furniture removal activities.

It is essential that any business suffering a disaster is able to continue as near normal trading in the shortest possible time period to survive. To achieve this, an organization should implement a comprehensive well-tested business continuity plan (BCP) as a first step. Insurance should be viewed as an extension to the BCP process, not an alternative.
