Partners in BCM

29 May 2008
Topics: Business continuity, BS 25999

BSI Management Systems has become a Business Continuity Institute (BCI) industry partner as part of its ongoing efforts to raise the profile of business continuity management (BCM) as a discipline and to promote corporate excellence in the delivery of BCM. The BCI is a not-for-profit association founded in 1994 to enable members to obtain guidance and support from fellow business continuity practitioners. Professional membership of the BCI demonstrates competence to carry out BCM to a consistent high standard.

"It's important that corporate excellence in BCM is adopted more widely throughout the public, private and not-for-profit sectors," says Paul Lanham, global marketing manager, BSI Management Systems. "Our own BCM standard, BS 25999, offers clear-cut guidance to organizations hoping to achieve this level of best practice and to ensure their business is prepared for any eventuality."

"Successful business leaders are risk takers and they might see BCM as a constraint on their entrepreneurial approach," adds Lyndon Bird, technical director of the BCI. "However, business continuity helps protect your brand, your image and your market share. It can also offer higher service levels that attract new clients and give much greater confidence to your existing ones.

"The BCI Partnership encourages organizations to aim for corporate excellence in the implementation of BCM," Byrd adds. "Organizations that manage to achieve this have a more robust understanding of their business and are often better equipped to deal with ?business as usual' as well as rising to the challenge of dealing with and overcoming incidents in an efficient manner."
