BSI has launched a new Health & Safety Quick Check, for organizations concerned with achieving and demonstrating sound occupational health and safety (OH&S) performance by controlling their OH&S risks.
BSI Health and Safety Quick Check is a web-based tool that contains a series of questions, broken down into 16 discrete sections, covering everything from hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control to emergency preparedness and response. Questions are designed to assess OH&S management systems against best practice standards such as BS OHSAS 18001. It helps to identify where an OH&S management system is working well and where the system needs attention. It uses an easy to understand and user-friendly web-based software - all that is needed is a browser and access to the internet.
The Quick Check tool offers a comprehensive review of OH&S management systems, as well as direct electronic access to the relevant standards and guidance, so that users have the latest information at their fingertips either on their desktop or hand-held device. It also helps identify OH&S risks and gaps, so that corporate policy can be improved and amended, according to best practice.

Question: Why is risk management important to business?
First, there's more to risk management than just managing risk. Most organizations will talk about risk assessments, but the question is: what are they assessing? If you don't know what the threats are, then how can you conduct an effective risk assessment?
