Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the information technology company for a sustainable and secure world has achieved certification to ISO/IEC 20000:2005 for its IT Service Management System (ITSMS). Telvent specializes in high-value-added products, services and integrated solutions for the Energy, Transportation, Environmental and Public Administration sectors, as well as Global Services. It enables the management of operational and business processes for companies worldwide.
The certification process carried out by BSI Spain touched on everything from the company's IT service management processes to its technology, with the design and implementation of the latest solutions in service management in conjunction with its technological partner, BMC Software.
According to Manuel Sanchez, chairman of Telvent: "Achieving certification to ISO/IEC 20000:2005 lets us guarantee integrity and security for our clients in the wide range of IT services we deliver, in addition to meeting their present and future needs, as well as those of our partners, by adapting our portfolio. "Operating with a single integrated management system represents an advantage that assures application of best practices within an environment of continuous improvement in process quality."
The certification process resulted in new roles and responsibilities for some Telvent professionals and working teams. This culture change was geared toward valuing the significance of the management system and the role they play therein.
This certification confirmed Telvent's IT service management solutions, based on ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) practices, the most widely recognized international standard for managing and operating IT infrastructure.
This certification reflects the organization's efficient management model, essential for optimal administration and management of the IT services that Telvent delivers through its Global Services division, as well as in reaching maximum customer satisfaction.
For Telvent, this management system represents yet another step forward in its commitment to ITIL practices as a way of guaranteeing successful business development. It joins the standards already in force within the company - Quality Management (ISO 9001), Environmental Management (ISO 14001) and Information Security Management (ISO/IEC 27001) among others.
Certification covers the ITSMS of Telvent's Global Services division, with a high level of standard integration and planning, and includes technological outsourcing services of information systems in the defining, planning, management, control and improvement stages of these services. Telvent joins the ranks of the very few companies in Spain to have succeeded in obtaining this certification.
Marcio Viegas, managing director of BSI Spain commented: "Telvent's certification demonstrates their commitment to providing the highest standards. BSI Spain is proud to support Telvent, with our unrivalled independence, rigour and added value service."

A little bit extra for Kitemark® bodyshops and garages
It's all well and good for an automotive bodyshop to earn the Thatcham BSI Kitemark® for Vehicle Body Repair, but it won't have as much impact if potential clients don't know about it. As a consequence, BSI decided to offer an Extras marketing toolkit to bodyshops and garages that have earned the Kitemark.
UK film industry pioneers sustainability standard developed by BSI
The British film industry, in conjunction with BSI, is taking the lead in the global entertainment market with the announcement at the Cannes Film Festival of a new British Standard that will improve the industry's environmental, social and economic impact. For example, in London alone, screen production accounted for 125,000 tonnes of carbon emissions in 2009, 40% of which came from studios and 28% from TV and film production.
Airbus in the UK has achieved certification to BS 25999, the Business Continuity Management (BCM) standard, following an audit from BSI. The certification covers Airbus? wing manufacturing site in Broughton, North Wales and becomes the first aerospace manufacturing company to receive certification to this standard by BSI.
While there was a time when companies would never consider working alongside the competition, today's marketplace demands a more flexible approach. Collaboration is fast becoming par for the course. For example, large government contracts often require expertise that goes far beyond any one company's capacity to deliver. Forming a consortium brings together the right experience in the right place, and it can mean the difference between winning or losing a tender.
How do you put a price on a brand? An international standard in the making will provide a consistent, reliable approach to brand valuation.
Question: What impact do you think BCM could have on business insurance in the future?
It is essential that any business suffering a disaster is able to continue as near normal trading in the shortest possible time period to survive. To achieve this, an organization should implement a comprehensive well-tested business continuity plan (BCP) as a first step. Insurance should be viewed as an extension to the BCP process, not an alternative.
