Repligen Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company in Massachusetts, has become the first company in North America to earn certification to BS 25999 Business Continuity Management, following an audit by BSI Management Systems in the US.
Repligen developed and implemented a business continuity management system to ensure an uninterrupted supply of its recombinant Protein A products, an essential consumable used in the manufacture of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies by the biopharmaceutical industry. Although Repligen has had a corporate commitment to business continuity and business continuity planning for several years, certification to BS 25999 has only been available since November 2007.
"As the world's leading supplier of recombinant Protein A, we felt that it was important to be on the cutting edge of business continuity to ensure an uninterrupted supply of products to our customers and ultimately to patients," stated Walter C Herlihy, president and CEO of Repligen Corporation. "We are very proud to be the first company in North America to have gained certification."

Regulation and legislation keep business on a level playing field and help mitigate against risk, as was acknowledged by The Hampton Review in 2005.
